Awareness-Raising Campaign on Digital Financial Services (DFS)
AC Consulting is proud to have been entrusted with the provision of consultancy services for a nationwide awareness-raising campaign focused on Digital Financial Services (DFS), digital financial literacy, and technology education. This initiative was implemented in close partnership with the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of Malawi, aligning with the national agenda to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment across the country.
Project Objective
The primary objective of the assignment was to increase awareness, understanding, and adoption of Digital Financial Services (DFS) in Malawi particularly among marginalized and underserved groups. These include:
Women and girls
Youth
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
People with disabilities
Internally displaced persons
Financially illiterate individuals
Rural and remote communitie
Our Approach
To deliver meaningful and lasting impact, our approach combined the following components:
Community-Centered Awareness Campaigns
We conducted on-the-ground sensitization events, school outreach programs, community radio engagements, and digital media campaigns to reach audiences in both urban and rural settings.Digital Financial Literacy Training
We designed and delivered tailored training programs on DFS tools such as mobile banking, digital wallets, and online payments. Special emphasis was placed on helping users understand how to use these tools safely and effectively.Technology Education and Skills Development
Participants were introduced to the basics of digital technology—how to use mobile phones and apps for transactions, budgeting, saving, and accessing financial services remotely.Inclusive and Accessible Materials
To ensure wide reach and inclusivity, we developed educational materials in multiple local languages and formats, including those accessible to people with disabilities.Targeted Stakeholder Engagement
We worked closely with local leaders, teachers, community-based organizations, and DFS providers to build trust and support at the grassroots level.
Project Impact
Thousands of Malawians including students, women entrepreneurs, and rural communities were sensitized and empowered to use DFS.
Increased awareness and adoption of mobile banking and digital payment platforms across target groups.
Strengthened local capacity to continue promoting digital financial literacy beyond the life of the project.
Looking Ahead
This project is a cornerstone of Malawi’s ongoing digital transformation.
